About

Chelsie Wilson

Chelsie Wilson is a St. Louis-based fine artist and AI engineer whose creative practice spans painting, drawing, and mixed-media assemblage. Her work explores nostalgia, play, human expression, and the strange emotional relationships we form with objects and images.

Drawn to imagery that feels both familiar and slightly uncanny, Wilson often works with expressive figures, fragmented visual references, found materials, and objects that carry a sense of history or personal memory. Her work moves between sincerity and absurdity, using humor, sentimentality, distortion, and visual contrast to examine the ways people assign meaning to the things they see, collect, remember, and keep.

Much of Wilson’s practice is rooted in experimentation. Rather than remaining tied to a single medium or aesthetic, she allows the idea behind a piece to determine its form, moving freely between traditional art materials and unconventional objects. This approach creates work that can feel intimate and psychologically charged while still retaining a sense of curiosity and play.

Alongside her studio practice, Wilson works professionally as an AI engineer. The contrast between a highly technical career and a tactile, intuitive art practice has become an important part of her creative identity. While her professional work is built around systems, logic, and emerging technology, her artwork provides a space for ambiguity, imperfection, emotion, and instinct.

Across both traditional and mixed-media work, Wilson is interested in the tension between seriousness and play, beauty and strangeness, and the familiar and the unsettling. Her practice ultimately centers on the human impulse to make meaning from images and objects—and the memories, emotions, and identities we project onto them.
